2008 MAG QLD STATE CLUBS RESULTS
What a great weekend for the boys and a fantastic result.
The 2008 QLD State Clubs was held over the weekend of 20th & 21st September and we went into the event hopeful of a good result, but we knew as we were only able to field teams in one division it would be difficult to better last years result of 8th overall MAG club. We had 12 enthusiastic young men compete in division c for levels 3 & 4 combined and the MAG coaches felt we had two very strong teams.
Our blue team consisted of Angus, Reece, Jack, Taylor, Brandon and Troy and placed 2nd overall and picked up 1st on floor, 3rd pommel, 3rd rings, 3rd vault, 4th PBars and 4th High Bar.
Our red team consisted of David, Chris, Rylee, Indigo, Cale & Thomas and placed 5th overall and picked up 2nd on floor, 6th pommel, 5th rings, 1st vault, 3rd P bars and 5th High Bar.
From the MAG team at Gold Coast, we are very proud of our boys and we look forward to hopefully feilding 3 teams next year in all divisions and maybe we can better our 4th overall which in our opinion is amazing as we contested one divsion this year. Well done boys, lets bring on Canberra and the 2008 MAG National Clubs.
Thanks to Myles for coaching the majority of the boys and making the MAG program what it is today and to Andrew for putting on his judges hat and making sure we were well represented on the competition floor. Also to Jane who puts a lot of work in behind the scene organising the entries and everything involved with the competition.

MAG NSW STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT

What a trip and some fantastic results from the Gold Coast Boys. On Friday 29th August, MAG Co Ordinator Brett and his chaperones Megan and Karin embarked on the biggest MAG trip in a long time. Ten boys made the journey to Sydney to take on the best junior gymnasts in NSW and there were some great gymnasts competing.
Upon landing in Sydney and after an ear bashing from 5 year old Jaydn about planes, flying and why the wings move and how long until we land, we await the return of our bags and thankfully they all arrived we headed to our two mini vans straight into the heart of the city and the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. After some photos and a quick circuit around the Opera House we were off for lunch and to training. After leaving Sydney I forgot how much traffic there is and to our two chaperones I really did think I took the shortcut but turned out to be a traffic jam, Yeah!
After a quick lunch it was time to fine tune the boys routines at Northern Beaches Gymnastics in Narrabeen. A good 2 hr session helped us on track but the boys had the indoor playcentre in sights and were lucky enough to have the centre closed off for their use. I thought all the energy had been used in training I was wrong and to Jaydn who decided to use his head as a break down the slide, Ouch. After training it was off to the accomodation and hopefully an early night and it certainly was, wow all asleep by 8.30 PM and nobody snored.

Day 2 saw our level 3 boys open up the competition with Indigo, Cale and Reece. This was the first time I have been on the floor with these boys and I must say Myles has done a great job with them and didn't they look good in the new tracksuits, we were being talked about how good we looked. After the NSW spectators were over the fact that why were Queenslanders in NSW for their State Championships, they realised the Gold Coast boys are a great bunch of gymnasts. well done to the level 3 boys and to Reece on his second overall placing.

Second session saw the clubs awesome level 4 boys up to compete and what an amazing effort these boys gave. It is a true reflection on their training and coaching as to their great results on the day. Taylor, Angus, Troy and Jack, you are a credit to the club and you were a true example of how a gymnast should perform on the floor. Without going into great detail on these boys they were all great all ended up on the podium at some stage, but Angus made it a double winning the Queensland 4 Open State Title in July and now beating the NSW boys and claiming 1st overall. Well Done Angus!
Our last session saw Corey on his own for level 5 and I don't think I have ever seen a more relaxed gymnast. Corey had a great competition cheered on by the level 4 boys and had his best competition this year. He claimed a bronze on vault and 6th overall and overcame his hoodoo on pommel and didn't fall. Well done Corey.

Day 3 saw us up a little later and had some surprise visitors at breakfast with a heap of lorikeets coming to visit. Didn't this keep the boys amused for a while. After breakfast it was youngster David's turn as he competed in level 2. David is still relatively new to the sport and had a great competition medalling on P Bars, Floor and pommel. This was the first competition David really relaxed and had fun out on the floor.
Our last session saw our youngest gymnast Jaydn (5) compete in his second competition. After a brilliant start which the whole team saw on P Bars, the rest of the team headed off for the flight back to the Gold Coast (so they thought). Jaydn and such a young age really impressed the other coaches who can see a big future for this youngster. After a wonderful finish to the competition on vault (Jaydn fell over) we were off to the airport but not before he was presented with a special gold medal for coming all the way down for the NSW competition, special moment for Jaydn.

As we headed off before presentation for our flight we were greeted at the airport by 8 gymnasts and two worried chaperones as their flight had just been cancelled. The thoughts of another night in Sydney scared us all. Thanks to Megan and her wonderful charm she single handed had the boys on my flight with Jaydn which was a real relief. But it got better with a 2 hour delay of our flight. But we did eventually arrive home around 11.00 PM, tired but excited to be back. To Karin and Megan the boys and I thank you for looking after us, you are both amazing people and I don't realise many people realise what a great job our chaperones do. We Thank You both.
Well done boys you are a credit to Gold Coast Gymnastics and to the MAG program. CONGRATULATIONS.
