MG UPDATE

Well we are well and truly into our competition season with both our junior and senior gymnasts having two competitions so far as we lead into Regional Championship's. Boys in general are doing very well and but they still need to look at the errors they have been making and ensure that by the the time they hit State Championship's they are at the peak of their performance.

Well done to all the boys that competed at Lawnton. We are certainly showing our depth with teams placing in all divisions with a first in level 2, first in level 3 (and 2nd) and a close 3rd in level 4/5.

Our senior boys also had their second competition where they headed off to Brisbane Grammar for an Invitational. Shawn Rogers, Troy Stockman, Cory Hitchens, Allan Angliss, Jack Elliot, Taylor Moss and Rylee Jenkins put in some solid performances on apparatus but with some medium and large errors showed their is still room for improvement. Shawn had a consistent performance finishing 2nd against the 9 Open gymnasts, Cory performed well with a 1st on floor and 3rd on P Bars and finishing 6th, Troy has shown huge improvements in confidence and performance with a 3rd on floor and finishing 7th, Allan placed 3rd on vault but after landing on the high bar withrew from competition but was showing some great performances before this. All optional boys are showing they can make the QLD team for Nationals if they work on errors and consistency and work on their start values. Our 6 Under gymnasts put in some credible performance with Jack getting through all 6 apparatus with few errors and with improvements on pommel is a real chance for Qld Selection. Rylee and Taylor are starting to get a grasp on their routines and with less errors will be a chance of apparatus placings come State Championship's and Regionals.  In all well done boys, we have a serious chance of 3 -5 boys making QLD selection, keep on training hard.

Our Jnr Regionals are the next for the level 2-5 gymnasts on Sunday 23rd. At this stage there are no times confirmed  but we are looking at sessions from around 12.00 PM onwards. Jane will send out confirmed session times once they become available.

Gymnasts in levels 6-10 will have their Regionals and State Trial coming up on the 29th and 30th May. This is a two day competition and boys must compete both days for qualifaction into the QLD Team for Nationals. I would advise parents to possibly book accomodation up in Brisbane for the night of the 29th May.

Don't forget entries are due for Club Championship's by the 29th May for a 13th June competition. Please make sure all gymnasts return notes by the closing date.

I was fortunate recently to be working at the Pacific Rim International competition in Melboure. The standard of gymnastics from the Chinese, Russian, American and Australians was very good. Some of the competition can be found at youtube if interested http://www.youtube.com/user/RK2197#p/c/72B9D14CD1BD2B45. It does also look like channel One will be broadcating the event which I will advise dates and times when I get the information.

Good luck to the boys in upcoming events and remember the effort at training you put in now will pay off at competition.

Brett

WG UPDATE

Term 2 has already kicked off with routines well underway along with various mock competitions leading into our WG girl’s biggest individual competition this year being State Championships.

2010 both coaches and gymnast are aiming to better our results from last year and once again be strong contenders at both individual and team competitions.
I remind parents that full attendance is required by all competitive gymnasts this term. It can be very difficult for coaches to structure programs if gymnast’s attendance is poor. In order to make your child as “ready” as possible for their competitions your cooperation in getting your child to training and on time would be very much appreciated by all coaches.

Competition attire:
All parents should now have purchased all necessary training and competition gear in preparation for the competitive season. Please check out the GCGC website for the “WG GCGC training and competition attire” list along with the “GCGC competition hair expectation”.

GCGC Easter Clinic
Thank you to all gymnasts who were able to take part in our WG GCGC clinic held over the Easter school holidays.
Our WG L4-7 gymnasts took part in a clinic presented by Stacey Umeh (Integrated Creative Movement Specialist). All gymnasts were involved in a ballet class through to free movement dance activities. We thank Stacey for her time and look forward to her return in the future.

MG and WG 2012 USA trip
Fundraising is well underway for our MG and WG USA trip 2012.
SLEEPOVER
The Gymnastics Sleepover was a hit in Term 1 raising well over $2,000. Thank you to all gymnasts, coaches and parent volunteers who got involved in this fundraising effort.
CT BBQ’S
Throughout terms 2 and 3 CT teams will be holding Saturday morning BBQ’s.
CT teams don’t forget you will be able to find a CT BBQ roster on both the MG and WG notice boards in the foyer area.
Thank you in advanced to all parents who are able to give up some of their time in order to help raise money for our travelling MG and WG gymnasts.

A FEW BASIC REMINDERS TO PARENTS:

SPEAK WITH YOUR CHILD’S COACH BEFORE CLASS STARTS
It is once again becoming increasingly difficult for coaches to start their classes on time due to parent interruption.
I would like to strongly remind parents that if they wish to speak with their child’s coach to do so before the commencement of the coaches’ class, NOT during class time. Not only is it an interruption to the coach but the other paying gymnasts & parents within that class.
Parents please see administration if you wish to speak with your child’s coach and they will be more than happy to pass on a message or ask the coach to speak with you before class commencement.

DON’T STAND IN THE GYMNASTS WAITING BAY
Once again I need to remind parents NOT to stand in the gymnasts waiting bay hoping to catch their child’s coach as they bring their classes in for warm up.
For safety reasons the gymnasts waiting bay is for gymnasts use only – not for parents.
Thank you parents in advanced for your cooperation with this matter.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES QUEEN BATON RELAY
Held Wednesday 21st April a few of our MG and WG gymnasts took part in a group display at the 2010 Commonwealth Games Queen Baton Relay hosted by the Gold Coast City Council. This display took place at the Broadwater Parkland, Southport. Our gymnasts were privileged enough to hold the Commonwealth Games Baton along with meeting Olympic gold Medallist Emma Snowsill.
Due to our clubs involvement with this event Fay Vesperman (Event Coordinator) from the GCCC has contributed $500.00 towards our 2012 USA trip.

BEST OF LUCK TO OUR WG GYMNASTS
Finally I would like to wish both coaches and most of all gymnasts the best of luck in preparation for their first competitions this year. I look forward in seeing some fantastic results along with many personal achievements by all gymnasts.

Kind Regards,
Nadia Maddalena
