INTRODUCING OUR MAG CO-ORDINATOR BRETT WOOD

Brett WoodMy name is Brett Wood and I am the new MAG co-ordinator. I will be assisting Myles and helping him improve the MAG program at Gold Coast Gymnastics Club.

I have been coaching for the past 13 years at the Northern Beaches Gymnastics Club in Sydney where I also managed the club for 10 years.

I coached the NSW Development Squad in 2004, 2005 and was the head coach in 2006. In 2005 I was awarded the NSW Levels Coach of the Year, which was a great achievement for myself. In 2006 I was the NSW Development Squad Coach of the Year and then awarded the 2006 Australian Development Coach of the Year. In 2004 and 2005 I was the team coach at Nationals and the manager in 2006. I am an accredited MAG Level 3b judge.

That is a brief outline of my experience in gymnastics. I am looking forward to working with the staff and gymnasts at Gold Coast Gymnastics Club and hope it is a successful year for all.

INTRODUCING OUR NEW RECREATION MANAGER JULIE DYKES

Julie DykesMy name is Julie Dykes and I am the new Recreation Manager. I am taking over from a good friend of mine Julie Cuff who has done a fantastic job at the Club.

I have been involved in the sport of Gymnastics for many years. I am very passionate and committed to its growth and development. I have trained as a P.E Teacher and Psych nurse but was drawn to gymnastics after enrolling my daughter at Gold Coast Gymnastics Club.

As a parent of an Elite Gymnast I am only too aware of the commitment and dedication needed to become a top gymnast and I have also learned what is the best role to play in your child’s gymnastics path and level of participation. A single parent of 2, Lyndon 12 and Hollie 17 we have always been involved in Gymnastics and the many benefits it brings to children.

I moved to Canberra nearly 10 years ago to allow Hollie to follow her dream. Whilst Hollie trained I was employed as ‘The Gymschool Co-ordinator’ for 7 years. Initially it was a feeder program to the A.I.S but became more general thus developing programs for Under 5’s, Schools and Levels.

Fortunately I learned a great deal from the national coach Juping Tian. I was involved in a number of Talent identifications clinics at the A.I.S. I was directly accountable to Juping Tian And Warwick Forbes(Head National MAG Coach) at the end of 2005. The G.School became ‘Rollers’ G. Club which was a school based club. I worked as Head Coach in 2007.

I am really looking forward to getting to know gymnasts and their families. I am dedicated and motivated and provide the best of my ability to helping too club and each child grow in their sport of Gymnastics.
