MG UPDATE
Holiday Training
The Easter Holiday program has now been set and distributed to all parents. All gymnasts will have from the 2nd - 5th April off over the Easter weekend. Please remember to notify your coach of any sessions your son will not be in and advise myself by email brett@goldcoastgymnastics.com. Also Note Ct 1, CT 2, CT3, CT4 & CT5 have a training session on Wednesday 7th April where all boys are training at the same time, CT 6 will train prior. This will enable myself to see where the boys are with routines and skill development and for all coaches to have an input in the skill development and offer feedback to the gymnasts.
Holiday Training Times:
State Squad
The first State Squad is on Sunday 14th March. Levels 5 & 6 will be in the morning session 8.30 AM - 11.30 AM & Levels 3 & 4 will be in the afternoon session 12.00 PM - 3.00 PM. Please remember boys need to wear their competition shorts and club polo shirt and bring with them training attire such as longs, loops and guards where applicable. Whilst the QAS does have very limited sitting area for parents it is much more beneficial for athletes to not have parents sitting in the gym. We recommend parents organise car pooling.
Gold Coast Invitational # 1
All boys from all CT programs should have received their entry for the Gold Coast Invitational for levels 1-7 set for the 17th/18th April. Please ensure entries are in on time no later than Saturday 20th March by close of office. Late entries may be accepted but will be charged an administration charge. If you are unsure if your son is competing please check with your sons coach. Please also note that boys are all levels testing unless they are in the same level they competed in 2009.
Lawnton Invitational
The Lawnton Invitational will be on Sunday 2nd May. We will only be sending boys in levels 2 - 5 with entries to be sent via email from Jane shortly. Please remember this is a teams event with no individual awards.
Uniforms
Please remember that if you are yet to order uniforms you may be leaving it late to do so. The manufacturer of our uniforms are extremely busy at the moment and ask us to allow for 6 weeks for delivery. Please ensure orders are placed this week at the absolute latest. We also have some notices on the boys noticeboard for some second hand items, so also check there as well.
National Clubs
Boys that are in levels 3 and above will have received an expression of interest form for the 2010 National Clubs Competition in Melbourne. Please ensure these notes are returned with a $50.00 deposit by Saturday 13th March. If a gymnast is not selected and this is a possibility this deposit will be refunded.

Welcome back to 2010! I hope that all families had a safe and enjoyable Christmas break. It has been great seeing all our WAG gymnasts back in the gym and training hard in preparation for the competitive season ahead.

UP AND COMING COMPETITIONS:
Our WG competitive season has almost arrived. All teams have begun routine structuring and preparation for our first competitions.
L3-7 girls will have their first competition at Splitz Gymnastics held early May. This will be a great competition leading in Regional Champions held at the end of May for our girls.
L1-2 gymnasts will have their first competition here at our home club being the GCGC Club Championships held in June.
I wish all the girls and their coaches the best of luck leading into the competitive season for 2010.
MG and WG combined International trip 2012:
Exciting news!!!
We are now full steam ahead with our preparation for a MG and WG combined USA trip aimed for January 2012. Brett Wood (MG Coordinator) and I have already begun fundraising efforts for this trip; we are hoping to raise a significant amount to minimise the cost for our traveling athletes.
PARENTS CAN GET INVOLVED: If any parent is involved or own a business that is interested in sponsoring our trip please speak to either myself or Brett today.
WAG COMPETITIVE PARENTS MEETING:
Thank you to those parents who came to the WG parents meeting held last Saturday 20th February 2010. Handouts from this meeting will be emailed to parents shortly. If parents do have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
SUPPORT OUR FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE:
Last year our fundraising committee did a fantastic job supporting our competitive teams. This year I encourage all our CT parents to support the committee at their fundraising events and if possible volunteer their time throughout the year.
ALL monies go directly back into our gymnasts here at the club. The more we support this committee the more money all parents will receive in return!
Thank you to those gymnasts and volunteers who got involved at the latest gymnastics fundraising disco. Once again the disco turned out to be a huge success in raising over $1,800.
GYM SLEEPOVER:
Held March 13th is our clubs first Gym Sleepover for 2010!
Any parents who are able to help out at this event please let me know. Parents will need to have a current Blue Card in order to volunteer.
All monies raised from our Gym Sleepover will be going towards our MG and WG International trip.
2010 UNIFORM:
As explained at the previous WG parents meeting we have made a few slight alterations to our uniform. Please note the following changes:
-
L4-10 podium leotard is expecting to change 2011
-
L2-5 competition leotard is now L2-6
-
L6-10 competition leotard is now L7-10

-
NEW ITEM: L4-10 gymnasts are required to purchase GCGC shorts $30.00 (This will be used for travelling events, competitions (when advised by your coach).
ORDER UNIFORMS EARLY: Parents please keep in mind it does take up to 4 weeks for uniforms to arrive after ordering. The WG competitive season has almost arrived so I do strongly suggest parents place any necessary orders ASAP. Please check out the GCGC website for the WG uniform list.
I am very excited about the year ahead and look forward to working along side all our talent gymnasts.
If any WAG parents do have questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via email nadia@goldcoastgymnastics.com or you can contact me here at the club on 55723 619.
Kind Regards,

-
Lawnton "Team" Invitational - 2nd May (Levels 2 - 5) - Teams Competition

Please remember time is running out to order uniforms. Orders can take up to 6 weeks to arrive, so please ensure you collect an order form from the office and place your order. Also for gymnasts that competed last year, please ensure they have tried on ALL of their uniform to ensure it fits correctly. We still do have parents seeking second hand uniforms, so if you are looking to sell anything please let me know what you have or give myself or the office a B5 (1/2 A4) sign with details and a contact and we will put it on the noticeboard for you.
Quick Survey
Don't forget to fill in the quick MG survey if you haven't already. Go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WQZ3SYT
Injury Maintenance
Just a reminder to keep your sons coach informed of any injuries or conditions your son may have. As a reminder the MG Team prefer that if it is a sporting injury that you use the specialists that we recommend. We find these physios/sports doctors have a great communication pathway with our coaches and feel that these specialists have a great understanding of our sport and its needs. For a full listing see your sons coach or refer to the handout given at the last parental meeting.
State Squad
The first State Squad is coming up on the 14th March. Times are yet to be advised, though the venue is at the QAS, Chandler. A reminder it can get busy at Chandler due to markets held their every Sunday.
USA 2012
It looks certain due to a great response from the MG parents, that the Gold Coast boys will be heading to the USA early 2012. More information will be out shortly, though fundraising efforts have started already.
Lost Property
We are starting to get overwhelmed again with boys lost property. After clearing out all lost property two weeks ago, we have accumulated over 25 new items. We ask for your assistance by firstly labelling all of their clothing and checking with them when they leave that they have everything they brought with them to gym.

MAG UPDATE
Welcome back for 2010 as the gymnasts slowly ease back into the training ritual and coaches are busy updating their knowledge at coaches congress and sitting judging courses. By the second week back of training the boys will be starting back on their skill development and continuing to improve their strength and get back lost flexibility.
2010 has seen some minor changes to the boys level 1-7 compulsroy routines with more complex skills added to some levels and completely new routines on some apparatus. The boys in level 7 optionals and above are slowly putting together their optional requirement routines and working on the newly listed bonus elements for their respective levels.
The 2010 Gold Coast Calendar has not been finalised at this stage. As we are still awaiting for two boys events to be held here at Gold Coast to be sanctioned by Gymnastics Queensland we cannot confirm dates at this stage. If you would like to view Gymnastics Queenslands event calendar at http://gymqld.org.au/uploads/pdf/2010_Calendar_Draft.pdf. This calendar is also in draft form and is only a guide at this point of time.
MG National Clubs is returning. After last year heading to Sydney for the GCA Cup as National Clubs was not running, the 2010 MG National Clubs has been rescheduled by Gymnastics Australia this time in Melbourne. The event has been scheduled for the 26th September but will be done over a few days. At this point in time Gold Coast would like to field a team with the possibility of only one team in each division competing this year. Going on past events we will send a team of 6 level 3 gymnasts, a team of 6 level 4 gymnasts, a team of 6 combined level 5/6 gymnasts, a team of level 7 Optional gymnasts and individuals in the higher levels. Gymnasts will need to earn positions in the team and will be done through results, training attendance and attitude to training. Information will be sent out at a later date.
Channel 10's Totally Wild will start back for 2010 in February with the segment on the boys from Gold Coast Gymnastics to be run shortly. Dates and times have not been confirmed though the shows producer will inform me prior to it going to air.
A bigger judging team is set for 2010 with Brett Wood, Andrew Biggs, Myles Cronin, Matthew Hodgson-Van Daal, Domonic Beddgood and Chris Gunders all sitting their respective levels in judging. Well done to Chris who certainly looks like he will pass his intermediate course and be eligible to judge up to level 6. 2010 should see a beginners coaching course being offered which is to judge levels 1-2. If there are any parents interested in doing this course please let me know so I can let Gymnastics Queensland know there is interest at our club in running one.
A competitive team meeting will be held either late January or early February. We are just awaiting the date to be set then I can advise of the dates. Remember this is a good opportunity for parents to get a run down on upcoming events and issues for 2010. This won't be a meeting to address individual athletes needs but an opportunity to find out as much information for 2010.
Australia will be hosting the 2010 Pacific Rim competition in Melbourne this year and will see the top senior and junior gymnasts from the USA, China, Japan, Russia, Canada and Australia go head to head in this event. As Australia does not host many International Gymnastic events, it may be an opportunity for gymnasts to travel down and see some of the top gymnasts in the world. Event information can be found at http://www.gymnastics.org.au/?ID=12471 but the dates are set as 28th April - 2nd May.
State Squad information will be out shortly. I have left it entirley up to coaches to decide on athletes to attend this year and they will decide which gymnasts will benefit by participating. Notes should be out next week.
MG CT 6 will return on Wednesday 27th January on their new 4 hour program. I would like to extend a welcome to the gymnasts and parents to the world of competitive gymnastics and that I will be organising a separate meeting with parents of boys in this program regarding what to expect in 2010.
News Flash : Stay tuned for information on an International Trip currently in discussion for the boys in 2010. Boys in our higher levels will be eligible. Information will be out late February.
