history

In 1988, two local Clubs, both operating from the one facility at Pizzey Park amalgamated to form the Gold Coast Gymnastics Club. In 1992 the facility was extended to include retractable seating and training pits.

In 1994 the Club became a satellite High Performance Centre, developing junior elite gymnasts and feeding them to the Queensland High Performance Centre and the Australian Institute of Sport. Numerous senior international gymnasts were first identified and trained at GCGC including Commonwealth Games dual Gold medallist Hollie Dykes, Heidi Piccardi, Kylie Tanner, Hayley Wright, Jasmine Webb, Stephanie Waters & Kayla Winch. Two top male Russian gymnasts, Andrei Kravtsov and Pavel Mamine also made GCGC their home when they moved to Australia, and were then referred on to the Australian Institute of Sport. Between them they went on to win numerous international gold medals for Australia including Andrei’s haul of four gold medals in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

In 1996 the club gained part time use of the community hall attached to the back of the gym, and in 2000, took over that hall full time. From 2001 – 2004 the club extended the foyer, the back hall, the ballet room and built the amenities block.

Future plans include satellite venues to the North and South, enclosure of the courtyard and a Mezzanine floor, and a further extension to the training area.
